WKSU will present an evening of folk music hosted by Ted Henry on October 7 from 8 p.m. to midnight as part of the station’s 50th anniversary. Henry, anchor on Cleveland’s NewsChannel5, hosted folk music programming on WKSU while he was a student at Kent State University in the mid ’60s. Veteran WKSU folk host Jim Blum will assist in choosing musical selections for the evening, presenting current folk favorites along with classics from Henry’s era. Henry will return to Kent on October 14 as grand marshal of the KSU homecoming parade and to attend WKSU’s gala dinner, the final event in a year of celebration. The dinner will feature Henry’s narration on the WKSU 50th anniversary video and appearances by public radio hosts Robert Siegel, Rudy Maxa, and Bill Radke.
About Ted Henry
Ted Henry began his broadcasting career in his hometown of Canton in 1964. Before his graduation in 1968 from Kent State with a degree in telecommunications, Henry played a number of roles at WKSU, including a wide variety of on-air assignments. WKSU, initially developed as a student-run radio “workshop,” offered many students their first opportunity at a live broadcast microphone. After a stint in the Peace Corps and jobs at WAKR-TV23 and WKBN TV and radio in Youngstown, Henry joined the staff of WEWS in 1972. He became anchor of Eyewitness News in 1975 where he has remained, becoming one of the area’s most respected media professionals. |
