| When Joel and Ethan Coen asked musician and producer T Bone Burnett to create a soundtrack for their film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” focusing on traditional and old-time music, no one could have predicted the enormous success that the collection of songs would have with the American public, selling over 6 million copies to date. Likewise, a concert at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium featuring the soundtrack’s contributing artists was, at the time, only planned as a celebration of music that has often been overlooked by commercial radio stations, driven by a narrow definition of format. |

The documentary footage from that concert became the film “Down From the Mountain,” which spawned its own soundtrack recording and, eventually, a live tour with many of the musicians from the original “O Brother Where Art Thou?” soundtrack, and a few of their like-minded compatriots.
On July 7, revel in performances by some of the best musicians working in traditional music as the “Down From the Mountain” tour comes to Blossom Music Center. At the core of this exciting event are bluegrass, blues, Appalachian ballads, and close harmony gospel songs—music with European and African roots passed down orally from generation to generation. The Blossom pavilion will be energized with harmonies intended to be sung live, reminiscent of the heartfelt voices of friends and families joining together on back porches and in church halls.
Rodney Crowell will emcee as an all-star line-up from half a century of traditional music takes the stage. Artists scheduled to appear include: Alison Krauss & Union Station with Jerry Douglas and featuring Dan Tyminski, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, Patty Loveless, The Whites, the Del McCoury Band, Norman and Nancy Blake, the Nashville Bluegrass Band, Chris Thomas King, Bob Neuwirth, and David Holt. |
