WKSU Honored For Interactive Media Excellence
May 18, 200x

WKSU Multimedia Designer Chris Duncan was recently recognized with two Gold awards from the 2004 Horizon Interactive Awards. Duncan was honored for creating the web site FolkAlley.com and for a web feature that accompanied the WKSU on-air news series “Class in America: The Unspoken Divide.”

WKSU launched FolkAlley.com in September. Honored with a Horizon Interactive Gold Award for Entertainment, the site focuses on the folk music genre and provides listeners around the world with streaming music, regularly updated folk news, and links to artist and industry sites. Hosted by WKSU DJ Jim Blum, the Folk Alley music stream offers the best in singer/songwriter, tradition-based, Celtic, acoustic and world sounds.

Even though American iconography often projects an image of equality, class status plays an important role in everything from education and occupation to nutrition and entertainment opportunities. “Class in America: The Unspoken Divide” examined these and other issues in a 13-part broadcast series. Duncan’s web site design created a visual look for the series and offered visitors downloadable transcripts, audio, and links to additional sites for more information.

The Horizon Interactive Awards are presented annually to recognize excellence in interactive media production among firms, individuals and in-house multimedia departments. The international competition received hundreds of entries from countries that included the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Germany, Hong Kong, Canada, and New Zealand.
