Bob Kruppenbacher
Broadcast Engineer

WKSU-FM’s Broadcast Engineer Bob Kruppenbacher was born in Rochester, New York and has always been interested in building and repairing electronic equipment. Bob was the Student Chief Engineer of Irondequoit High School’s WIRQ-FM, one of a few 10-watt high school FM educational radio stations, and graduated in 1969 with an award for Technical Excellence in Engineering. He studied Electronic Technology at Monroe Community College and his first broadcasting job was with WHEC-TV in Rochester, NY. Bob worked in Rochester at WAXC-AM, formerly WHEC-AM, and WBBF-AM-FM two popular rock and roll radio stations in the 1970s.

Bob handcrafted and sold topiary sculptures at many arts and crafts shows including “The Corn Hill Arts Festival” in Rochester, NY and “The Yankee Peddler Festival” in Canal Fulton, Ohio during the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1989 Bob moved to Akron, OH and became the Assistant Chief Engineer for WAKR-AM and WONE-FM. While at WAKR, Bob was the behind the scenes man at many remote broadcasts, including broadcasts from the Goodyear Blimp and the NEC World Series of Golf at Firestone Country Club.

Bob came to WKSU-FM in 1997 and built WKSU FM’s new transmitting facility in Copley. He has been involved with many engineering projects including building new studios for WKSU in Cleveland and Canton, Ohio. Bob is a member of the Chapter 70 Society of Broadcast Engineers and is working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Kent State University.
