“I was born in Canton, in Mercy Hospital. Mercy is gone now, but that’s where the public library now stands, which seems somehow appropriate. Northeast Ohio is my home, but I’ve also lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Indiana. I have a Bachelor’s degree in communications from Ashland University. I’ve also studied music, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and religion. That’s not too many interests, is it?
My father made it through the Great Depression selling men’s clothing by day and playing guitar by night. He always wanted me to learn guitar. I tried piano instead; as much as I love it, I discovered that it’s not my instrument. I’ve played several Renaissance winds, directed an amateur early music group, taken voice lessons, and sung in choirs. Guitar? Well, maybe someday.
Goals: Travel more, especially in Asia and Scandinavia; read all the books I’ve bought but haven’t read; finish all my unfinished projects (ha!); use less energy, make it renewable, and make it myself; learn to play medieval fiddle. Maybe even learn guitar.
Books I've read lately: Patricia McConnell’s
The Other End of the Leash, Laurel Kendall’s
Life and Hard Times of a Korean Shaman, and Geri Larkin’s
Stumbling Toward Enlightenment. (I’m not sure it means anything, but I just noticed that all of these authors are women.)
New CDs in my life: Vaughan Williams’
On Wenlock Edge, sung by Ian Partridge; Nick Drake’s
Made to Love Magic; and the custom CD I’m producing for the Akron Symphony Chorus.
Recent DVDs I like:
The Point (Fred Wolf), and
Take Care of My Cat (Jae-Eun Jeong).
