Thoughts on Design
The Kent State Folk Festival was looking to create a fresh and innovative promotion for its 35th annual festival. Folk music is heavily centered around community, roots, nature, and personifying bold statements, and the designs aimed to represent that theme.
To that end, the design was inspired by the letterpress, and the use of heavy block typography (print and web) lent a weathered—yet bold—look. Further, we worked with Hatch Show Print (a company known for their creative use of the letterpress), and commissioned posters to be made supporting the concept. Overall, the design was well-received and captured the spirit of the festivities.
“Major props and sincere appreciation for an amazing design job on these pieces.”
